UNISON march on London

Regular readers will know that UNISON has been lobbying hard to amend the worst elements of the Trade Union Bill. We are delighted to announce that we have secured a major victory for current and future members.

We are happy to say that the government has withdrawn plans to ban public service workers from having their union subs deducted from their wages.

This may sound like a technical change but it is actually very significant for our members. It means members can pay their subs in a way that suits them. But it actually goes further than that as our General Secretary, Dave Prentis says:

"Now at least UNISON can concentrate on campaigning to protect public sector employees at work and the services they deliver, safe in the knowledge that it will not have to spend the next year running around workplaces with direct debit forms for fear of losing much of its income."

Now that spring has sprung it is time for the second edition. We think it you will like it but have a read and let us know!

As a Branch we pride ourselves on being active and engaging with our members.

There are many ways to do this including workplace meetings, individual casework or running campaigns to name a few.

One of the best ways to meet people is through workplace stalls. This helps us keep up to date with members and their views but also talk to non-members and hopefully sign them up to the Union.

Pictured above is Branch Chair Andrea Dickens with UNISON Organiser Alex Norris. They are running a stall at April's induction at Trust HQ. They spoke to dozens of new starters and signed many up to the Union. At the same time the Branch was also running a stall at the Induction held at Rampton Hospital.

Alex runs at least one stall each week across a variety of locations. If you'd like him to run one at your workplace then please get in touch.
